Post company

for roll & Hill

Post Company makes pieces meant to be used and enjoyed. Founded by Ruben Caldwell, Jou-Yie Chou, and Leigh Salem, the studio—based in Brooklyn, NY, and Jackson, WY— works across architecture, interiors, and product design, with the disciplines informing each other. The studio’s furniture
and lighting rework familiar archetypes, reducing them
to their essentials.

Eschewing ornamentation, the team exposes each piece’s structure, with the wood, metal, and glass elements becoming the design. Scale and silhouette are carefully considered to help the items harmonize with their surroundings. The result are furniture and fixtures that function beautifully and hold their own visually but never overpower.

“Our pieces are intentionally dissonant. They have personality and intrigue but still read as simple and understated.”

the material nature of

post company

Post Company’s products are expressions of form and texture. The designs may be stripped down to their structural bones, but the honest, tactile materials employed give the pieces physicality and warmth.

Bell

Inspired by the candlelit bell jar lantern, Bell uses a series of round brass plates to reflect LED light. This interplay softens the illumination and creates a warm, intimate glow.

These understated tables and benches reveal their construction, with the grain of the wood and quiet craftsmanship taking center stage.

“We are constantly discussing how objects age, patina, and take on meaning as they are used.”

Let go from piano

If design is a language, Post Company speaks several of its dialects. The studio works across disciplines and on scales from large (architecture) to small (products). However, there is one creative language that cofounder Jou-Yie Chou has found
difficult: music.

Delta

Comprising three brass plates, Delta’s triangular shade acts like a louver, shaping and softening the light. The piece is available in two finishes and three variations: sconce, pendant, and surface mount.

Grange

Proportion, not detail, defines these benches.
Their sculptural quality comes from the thickness
of the wood and the way the planes intersect.
